Hi guys.
Today, in discussion, it was said that the play seems to end in the same place that it began. What do you think was meant by this?

i think the reason why the story ended were it began is because when the witchez told Macbeth that he will be the future king and they told him his future aswell as banquo's it got Macbeth thinking about killing the KIng thats why the king younger son went to the witches at the end of the movie because his brother got the crown and he didn't. And he wanted to know how can he become the next king
i personally think that it was made like this to show us that eveything gets repeated in life
I agree with Caner in that comment, Shakespeare has a way with his language and a way with showing lifes lessons and this was one of them
Hi Karim
You said Karim chouikhen said you think the reason why the story ended with the same situation as when the story began was because Dnalbain had the same desires as macbeth. you say that like macbeth, he seethed with anger and frustrated desire when he saw someone (that he considered less worthy), take all that he yearned for. Do you think that Shakespeare is saying that we all have this capacity for unrestrained evil? Are there any characters who can resist the temptation to do evil?
Hi Caner. Is everything in life just a re-writing of the past? It's an interesting idea. If that is the case, then today, we may look very different to these people who lived such a long time ago, but in basic character and drives, we are just the same. Can you think of an instance from today, when men/ women, who put themselves forward as "good people', end up doing great evil? (PS you might like to look at Jo Macleay's response to one of the forst questions I posted on this blog)
Hi Josh, it was interesting to see you and Caner with the same low opinion of mankind. Banquo claimes to be a very different sort of person. when Macbeth sidles up to him and wants to discuss further what the whitches have prophesied, banquo warns him that his loyalty to the king is something he will not put aside. A2 Sc 1 he says he wants to keep his "busom franchised and his allegience clear". do you think he is an exception, or are there other characters who do not fit the evil mould in which Macbeth (and in Polanski's mind), Donalbain are cast?
When play seems to end in the same place that it began it means that history repeats itself over again. At the beginning we see Duncan fight against Macdonwald who had betrayed the king and in the end the same thing happens with Macbeth, who also turned against his king and friends. In Polanski's version of Macbeth we saw history repeat itself again when Donalbain went to visit the witches. The qoute "the play seems to end in the same place that it began" means the same thing keeps happening which is refering to people wanting more power and turning against their King.

Hi Anthony
yes, we seem to see the same situation, just peopled by different characters. (I love the considered way that you express yourself in this post).
Do you think that Shakespeare is saying that like macbeth and Macdonald, we all have the seeds of evil in us?
